Skorpios - Underwhelming
Nydri, Lefkada anchorage shouts the joy of Greek cruising - dozens upon dozens of anchored boats piled into what other world cruising locations would call a canal. But here in Greece it’s an open season free-for-all anchorage packed with happy cruisers coming and going day and night. No harbor master coming to collect fees, restricting movement or pestering you. The dingy dock, conveniently located in front of the chandlery has a sign “dingy welcome here”.
Here we waited out a blow and completed a few necessary projects - generator oil change, grocery store run (all four in search of cracker brand), hair salon and enjoyed our first of the season gyro.
However, this was not the real draw to the leeward side of Lefkada. Rather it was a sail-by of Skorpios, American First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onnasis’ famous island retreat. It was a bust - poorly located too close to Lefkada and directly in the ferry traffic lane. No privacy. Now we understand why she enjoyed the yacht off Capri and the Amalfi Coast!
