Waking up to a beautiful sunrise as we see land ahead.

Sunrises are spiritual.

After playing the waiting game for over a week, Poseidon blessed us with a favorable weather window. We’re off on a six day sail to Datca, Türkiye. Farewell dear Malta…

The passage had a bit of everything - no wind, too much wind, perfect wind, sun, rain and rolls, with one consistent element - waves and lots of swell. Fortunately, they were coming from the port quarter, giving us a lift of a knot or two in speed.

Check In

After anchoring we hoisted the yellow flag, put the dingy in the water and went in search of our agent, Sinai Turksoy of Datca Yacht Marine Agency. He did a terrific job getting us officially checked in to Türkiye. We received our Blue Card for pump out recordings, paid our fees and were on our way.

The bay surrounding Datca was well protected for the 30kt gusts predicted for the next several days.

Fresh fish for dinner. What a treat!

Purchased at the fisherman’s market on the town dock. It was fabulous.

With dinner taken care of we explored Datca, a beach town on the end of the Reşadiye Peninsula.

Sunday (and possible more) was game day. Socializing between serious backgammon, card games and one game we are not familiar with. Although we wanted to know, we were pretty sure a friendly inquiry would be frowned upon. Consequential betting was taking place.

Monday was beauty day. We found a nice salon, Sibel Kuafor where I got my hair cut and convinced Ken we both needed pedicures. I chose red polish, Ken chose none. Mirat, the owner of the salon, was delightful and shared several suggested stops for our cruise along the Turquoise Coast.

Mirat’s suggested stops added to our map.
